Dev Deepawali Celebrations

Dev Diwali has great significance in Hinduism. Dev Diwali is celebrated on the full moon day of Kartik month, exactly 15 days after Diwali.

Dev Diwali in Varanasi has always been a part of Kashi and every year people from all over the world reach Varanasi to celebrate Dev Diwali and become a part of Dev Diwali. Kashi, situated on the banks of the Ganga, looks like a bride on the day of Dev Diwali, whose adornment seems to be done with earthen lamps and the noise of the people instead of jewelry. The 84 ghats built on the banks of the Ganga shine with light and the darkness of the sky is illuminated with fireworks, seeing which it seems that no one can welcome the gods better than Kashi.

Boats floating on the Ganga and the sailors are both selected by the people in advance, so that they can watch the Ganga Aarti and fireworks comfortably, and on the other hand, flowers and lamps also choose their place as to which corner of the ghat they have to beautify, now they just wait for the evening.

Why is Dev Deepawali celebrated?

It is believed that Lord Shiva killed a demon named Tripurasura on the full moon day of Kartik month, after which there was an atmosphere of happiness among the gods due to which all the gods and goddesses along with Lord Shiva came to earth and celebrated by lighting lamps.

That is why even today Dev Deepawali is celebrated on the full moon day of Kartik month, especially in Varanasi this festival is celebrated with great pomp. It is believed that on this day all the gods and goddesses including Lord Shiva arrive in Kashi. According to the scriptures, lighting lamps on this day are also provided. It is believed that lighting lamps after bathing in the Ganges on this day bring auspicious results throughout the year.
